“And if a man commits a sin punishable by death, and so he is put to and you hang him on a tree, his dead body shall not hang on the tree, but certainly you shall bury him on that day, for cursed by God is one that is being hung” (Deut 21:22–23).
In the Old Testament you were required to follow the law in order to receive blessings from God. If you broke a law it would then turn into a curse. Nobody was able to fully follow the law 100% of the time. So blessings flowed from obedience to the law.
In the New Testament Jesus Christ came and he was able to fully obey the law (living a life of no sin). But in order to fulfill the will of God he accepted the curse as if he hadn't obeyed the law. This then allowed a believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to enjoy the same blessings as one who had fully obeyed the law. As a Christian we will never be able to fully live without breaking the law (sinning) on this earth. However because Jesus Christ died on the cross and paid the payment (curse) for our sins we are able to enjoy the blessings that come from obedience in this life. Not only did he die on the cross, he defeated death by rising on the 3rd day and ascending to heaven where he sits today interceding on the behalf of all who have professed faith in him.
Prayer: Thank God for sending his Son Jesus Christ to accept the curse for our sins. Ask God today who you need to share Jesus Christ with.
