9How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. 10 With my whole heart I have sought you; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:9-11
This passage addresses how a young man can cleanse his way and have a pure heart in following God's commandments. But from this passage all can take the lesson of following God with all your heart and guarding it according to the word.
If we do not have God's word hidden in our hearts so it can have a fast and firm hold, we will be readily available to fall into sin. Satan will easily surprise and entangle us with his tactical ways. The call here is to the greatest safeguard we can seek, not having the knowledge of the law or command God has given, but to hide in deeply in our hearts.
How do we hide God's word deeply in our hearts? 1st-We must commune with God daily through studying his word and praying with him. 2nd-We must be connected to a body of fellow believers in a church for accountability and learning. 3rd-Our ways won't be his ways, we must allow God to penetrate our hearts so we follow his commands and not what we want.
Prayer: Ask God to detox your heart and make room for his word in it.
Praise: Praise God that His word can be our guide to pleasing him and that we might not sin against him.
