And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest. Leviticus 23:9-10
The festive of Firstfruits was next in line on the Israelite calendar which began the day after the Sabbath in the week of Unleavened bread. By bringing the first sheaf to the priest it represented the yield of the crop that came from the hand of God.
How does this apply to us? I don't farm. I don't have any fruits to give!
If God spoke to Moses and he was to tell the Israelites to bring a yield of the best fruit from the crop as acknowledgment that it came from the hand of God,wouldn't God expect the same from us? This was a step of obedience for the Israelites.
Do we bring God our best? Our best effort? The first fruits of our income as a tithe? The first part or best part of our day in prayer or study time?
If we don't bring the first fruits of our blessings to God are we telling him that we accomplished this without him?
